AMD Driver Timeout Crash: Adrenalin TDR & Voltage Calibration Guide
Fix "AMD software detected that a driver timeout has occurred" crashes on Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 series GPUs without losing gaming performance.
Why AMD Driver Timeouts Occur on RDNA2 and RDNA3
Radeon graphics cards feature dynamic aggressive boost clocks. When transitioning from heavy gameplay back to 2D menus, instantaneous voltage drops can trigger an AMD driver timeout alert.
The Calibration Fix
- Open AMD Adrenalin > Performance > Tuning > Set to Custom.
- Enable GPU Tuning > Set Min Frequency (%) to within 100MHz of your Max Frequency (e.g. Min 2300 MHz, Max 2500 MHz). This stops VCORE voltage droop during menu transitions.
- Disable Enhanced Sync if using FreeSync/G-Sync displays to prevent buffer tearing.
