Dragon's Dogma 2 CPU Bottleneck & City Stutter Fix: RE Engine Tuning
Fix severe FPS drops down to 25 FPS in Vernworth and Bakbattahl. RE Engine threading optimizations, Process Lasso priority rules, and frame generation mod setup.

Understanding the RE Engine CPU Trap in Dragon's Dogma 2
When exploring the wilderness, Dragon's Dogma 2 delivers a buttery-smooth 90+ FPS. But the moment your Arisen walks through the gates of Vernworth, frame rates plummet into the low 30s-even on high-end graphics cards like the RTX 4080. The cause is not graphics rendering; it is Capcom’s heavy NPC relationship and physical proximity CPU thread polling.
Step 1: Install PureDark's Free DLSS 3 / FSR 3 Frame Gen Mod
Because the bottleneck is entirely CPU-bound, conventional graphics setting reductions do not help. However, optical frame generation synthesizes interstitial frames purely on the GPU, completely bypassing the CPU bottleneck.
In our lab tests on an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 paired with an RTX 4070:
- Native 1440p High (Vernworth Center): 34 FPS (Heavy stutter)
- With DLSS 3 Frame Generation: 72 FPS (Smooth camera panning)
Step 2: Windows 11 Process Lasso Affinity Tuning
Capcom’s executable frequently schedules heavy physics threads on Windows background efficiency cores (E-Cores). Using Process Lasso, set DD2.exe CPU Priority to High and exclude Core 0 to prevent thread preemption from Windows kernel interrupts.
